Tuna Salad Recipe ♡

As part of a healthier lifestyle, I have been playing around with new healthy recipes. Now, I'm not going to say that they're ingenious or original, but they work for me. So in a bid to prepare a quick and easy lunch, I came across this simple tuna salad. Now, I'm definitely no health expert but I do know that fish is a great source of protein, so eat up ladies and gentlemen!

For the salad, you will need:

  • 1/2 a tin of kidney beans
  • 1 tin of tuna
  • 1 large tomato
  • 1 spring onion
  • A handful of lettuce (whatever type works for you
  • 1/4 of cucumber
  • 1/2 a red bell pepper

For the dressing, you will need:
  • Lemon juice
  • Olive Oil
  • Dijon Mustard
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Honey (preferably runny)
  • Balsamic Vinegar
(Just add these to taste)

So, I know that this isn't a ground-breaking recipe but I hope you enjoy it none the less!

Stay healthy! :)

Fashion through the decades ♡

Working closely with Fashion Capital recently, my dad and I decided to create a look-book of how teenagers in the 21st century style certain trends differently from the past. This photo shoot took place in Life Photography Studio in Chatterton Road, Bromley. My two friends and I posed and danced (and pretty much did anything else you can think of!) in front of a green screen, using the occasional prop such as stalls and seats. The purpose of the green screen was to later allocate a specific background to each image to give a nostalgic, vintage feeling. Although a couple of the backgrounds were hand-drawn with my dad's graphic design skills (see disco and monotone checkered photo), the rest were photos from his large library of photos, from London to Miami, and even the odd trip to Space!!).

1960s

This photo represents the iconic disco trend of the 60s! The hand-drawn background ties in a very retro, funky theme. Models are seen wearing a real vintage 60's dress and a traditional style of peter-pan collar while on the far left, a crop top is made more modern through being paired with black skinny jeans.

This photo has been made very blocked and striking, much like the model and her attire, through another hand-drawn, computerized geometric background.

1970s

Charlie's Angels

Throughout the 70s, black and leather were very prominent trends, creating an edgy yet sultry look. We decided to re-create the Charlie's Angels infamous pose for fun, this was paired with the background of a bonfire and firework combined in order to appear like an explosion. We decided to make the outfits more feminine by adding delicate touches of lace and metallic accents.

1980s

Using a real 'pleated bat wing' coat, dating back thirty years, we recreated an 80s Miami. Posing in front of a vintage car in Miami Beach, shot in July 2014, I am wearing a camel coloured coat with black detailing, paired with thin black frames; showing the trend of wearing big glasses. In order to modify the outfit, I wore dark wash skinny jeans, a rose gold chunky bracelet watch and curled my hair into loose, beachy waves.

1990s

So 1990s is definitely my favourite era. Baggy jumpers, jeans, checkered shirts... that's me every day! In the first photo, we are standing in front of the John Lennon Wall in Prague. The colour definitely showcases the bright, bold trends. We are seen wearing the famous checkered shirts, however nowadays I have noticed that teenagers tend to tie them around their waists and pair them with crop tops and either leggings or high waisted trousers. Also, the classic 'braid' hairstyle has been experimented with a lot more nowadays and can be fishtail, french braid, waterfall braid, dutch braid, etc. I paired my outfit with statement accessories such as a backpack and my new Frends headphones to give it a more retro look. This background was also in Miami, Florida. The last picture shows me in front of a battered wall, in black and white, emphasizing the grunge phase. I am wearing a scrunchie in my hair, a graphic baggy jumper, high waisted jeans and low top converse.

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed it. To see more of my dad's (Terence Waeland) brilliant photography, click here: ID2 Design

Until next time, Jennie xo

January Favourites

This posts is going to be mostly writing as opposed to photos, as my camera is currently being used for a school photography project. As in my previous post, you would have seen that I have taken a chilled-out month, so I haven't really been experimenting with many make-up bits or fashion pieces.

Films/TV:

  • The Hunger Games: Okay, so I know I'm REALLY late to the game- try 3 years- but I watched this at the start of the month with my dad and I loved it! It was one of those films that were so over-hyped that I put off seeing it, I hadn't even read the book. I was pleasantly surprised- it was full of drama... but more importantly- Isabelle Fuhrman! My god, I love that girl. I've loved her ever since I watched Orphan, but she's such a good actress and always delivers the evil roles perfectly! Can she just be a favourite by herself?!
  • Into The Woods:  I saw this in the cinema this month and really enjoyed it. The storyline was great, the songs were catchy and the range of actors were amazing. But seriously, how can you give me a film with Chris Pine and Johnny Depp and not expect me to love it?
  • Gossip Girl:  So I recently got Netflix, and wanted to get hooked on a new TV show, so Gossip Girl was my choice. This is an amazing show; full of drama, style and mishap! All of the characters are so different and interesting and the storylines are phenomenal. Of course, I have been dragged onto the Chuck/Blair bandwagon.. I just can't get enough of them. They are by far my favourite characters. So, if you haven't seen it already, please watch it- you won't regret it!
  • Die Hard:  Wow, is all I can really say! I have a long list of classic films which everyone raves about but I haven't got around to seeing, and this was one of them. My parents persuaded me to watch this and I couldn't be happier that I did.. it's amazing! One of the best action films that I have ever seen and it's one of those films that seem so cool and instantly make you want to become a bad-ass hero. Oh, and I think I may have fallen slightly head over heels in love with young Bruce Willis! Dayum! Yippie Ki-Yay, mother f*ckers.

Songs
  • Clean Bandit ft Jess Glynne- Rather Be
  • Every song from 1989 (favourites: Blank Space, Shake it Off, All You Had To Do)
  • Nappy Roots- Good Day (if you want a feel-good song, give this a shot)
  • The Kooks- Naive Remix

Youtubers
  • Breelovesbeauty
  • Essiebutton
  • Itswaypastmybedtime
  • Ava Allan
  • Viviannadoesmakeup
  • GeorgiaMMusic
  • beautycrush

Fashion:
  • Biker coat (eBay)

  • Dress (H&M)

Random:
  • Divergent Book- I loved the film when it came out, but my friend convinced me to read the book and I loved it! I'm not one for reading the book and then watching the film, I choose one or the other. However, the book had some great parts that the film missed out, but overall I really enjoyed reading this one!
  • 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist' book by Dario Fo. I've been reading this book for English A Level and surprisingly, I really liked it! I found it very funny and the Maniac character very likeable! Also, it's only a short book- so that's a bonus!
  • As I said in my 'Hello 2015' blog post, I've started scrap booking this year. It;s been going really well so far and I've enjoyed relaxing and thinking back over the memories I've had (Cheesy- I know!). Here's a sneak peek into my supplies! (Paperchase all the way!)

Hope you've had a great January! Roll on February...

A quick update | February ♡

As you may have noticed, I have taken a break from blogging as I have needed a bit of time for myself recently. February will hopefully be a very productive and good month for me, so I will be switching things up a bit.

Firstly, I am going to be working really hard on my health next month- from eating healthily to exercising. As well as physical health, I've realized how important mental well-being is as well. So I've taken a step back- relaxed more by doing activities such as playing the piano, drawing, writing. This has really changed me and cleared my head, it's so much better to write out your thoughts or chill out and de-stress.

So, it may be noticeable that my blog isn't necessarily dedicated to fashion or beauty anymore. Although they will still be featuring a lot on my blog, I want to write a lot more, perhaps start a series and talk about certain topics. I want this to be a place where you can come to relax with a hot drink, and read about my personal experiences and thoughts on whatever. So, I will be writing a lot more personal, wordy posts. So come back here next month for a bit of a switch-up.
